How to reduce unnecessary worry and anxiety?

Sometimes we worry about things unnecessarily and become anxious about small, petty issues. It is important to understand that beyond a point worrying is not helpful. So we've to learn to distinguish between problems and circumstances. Problems are events over which we have some or full control while circumstances are things which are completely out of our control. So, anxiety of an exams is a problem but heavy rains is a circumstance. Whenever one is getting anxious, one should ask 'Am I worrying about a problem or a circumstance?'. If one finds that one is worrying about some circumstance which is completely out of one's control then one should remind oneself that thinking too much about a circumstance is not going to reduce the possibility of that dreaded event from occurring. So worrying excessively about it does not add any value. So focussing on problems and taking actions to solve those problems should be the priority.
